Prince George's County Docket Basics
A docket is the court's chronological activity log. In Prince George's County, a docket may show when a complaint was filed, when a summons issued, when a defendant was served, when a motion was received, when a hearing was set, when an order was entered, and how the case ended. In criminal and traffic cases, the docket can also show charge events, warrant activity, bond events, pleas, dispositions, sentencing, and financial obligations when the information is public.
The docket should be read as an index and timeline. It often tells a user what happened, but it may not show the full document text. A docket entry that says "motion filed" does not always provide the motion itself. A docket entry that says "order entered" may not show the signed order. For those documents, contact the Clerk of the Circuit Court, the District Court clerk, or the public access channel for the court that handled the case.
The Maryland Judiciary announced a redesigned Case Search in January 2024. That notice described Case Search as the system for internet access to Maryland case-record information under the access rules, including party names, city and state, case number, date of birth, trial date, charge, and disposition.

That statewide redesign matters locally because Prince George's County Circuit Court, District Court, and eligible appellate docket information are searched through the same Maryland court-record system.
Find Prince George's County Dockets
Use Maryland Judiciary Case Search for public docket summaries. The system includes Maryland District Court and Circuit Court case information, and Judiciary materials state that appellate case information has been included for the Supreme Court of Maryland from term year 2015 forward and the Appellate Court of Maryland from term year 2016 forward. Case Search is free, but it is not the official case file and does not guarantee remote access to every docket event.
- Search by case number when a notice, citation, filing, or receipt provides one.
- If using a party name, try first and last name, then add middle name or spelling variations.
- Use Prince George's County, court type, case type, or date filters when the portal offers them.
- Open the detail view and read the docket entries in date order.
- Confirm court location before appearing because District Court matters may be in Upper Marlboro or Hyattsville.
- Ask the clerk for documents, certified copies, or older files that are not displayed online.

Prince George's County Docket Courts
Prince George's County docket information follows Maryland's court structure. The Circuit Court is the general-jurisdiction court of record and keeps dockets for felony criminal cases, major civil cases, jury trials, family and divorce matters, juvenile matters, equity cases, and appeals from District Court. The District Court keeps dockets for traffic, landlord-tenant, replevin, small claims, many misdemeanors, certain felonies, and civil claims within District Court jurisdiction. Probate estate events are handled through the Orphans' Court and Register of Wills rather than ordinary Case Search workflows.

Prince George's County Dockets vs Files
A docket is not the full Prince George's County court record. It is closer to a table of contents and event log. It can show that a motion, order, judgment, subpoena, warrant, or hearing exists, but the full document may be in the official file or in MDEC with access limits. This difference matters for legal use. A landlord-tenant docket entry may show judgment, but a certified copy of the judgment must come from the court. A criminal docket entry may show a disposition, but the full file may hold the charging document, plea paperwork, sentencing order, or bond terms.

Read Prince George's County Dockets
Read a docket from the oldest entry to the newest entry, then review future hearing dates. In a civil case, look for complaint filed, service, answer, motion, hearing, order, judgment, post-judgment activity, and appeal. In a criminal case, look for charging document, initial appearance, bond, indictment or information, arraignment, plea, motion events, trial, disposition, sentence, probation, warrant, and financial entries. In a traffic case, look for citation events, hearing or trial election, plea, fine, costs, failure to appear, or payment status.
Common terms deserve care. A disposition is the result of a charge or case. Nolle prosequi means the prosecutor declined to proceed. Stet means an inactive criminal docket status that may later be reopened under conditions. A body attachment is a court order directing that a person be brought before the court, often in civil or family enforcement. A warrant entry should be verified with the court or sheriff before action because online status may lag.
Maryland remote-access limits also affect docket reading. Some non-conviction criminal outcomes and certain cannabis-related matters may not appear remotely on Case Search even if courthouse inspection remains possible. Sealed, expunged, shielded, juvenile, adoption, and sensitive family records may be absent or redacted.
